John Foster studied piano with Kendall Taylor and Dennis Matthews at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester. His career has combined performance and teaching. As a pianist, he has worked as soloist, accompanist and in chamber groups including the Lydian Trio. Although most of his recital work has been in the UK, he has performed in France, Germany and Hong Kong where he has also given radio broadcasts.

In 1983, he founded, jointly with his wife Joan Foster, the St Cecilia Music Trust whose chamber groups and chamber orchestra have had notable successes in national competitions.

In 1991, the Trust extended its work with the launch of an instrumental tuition scheme in schools in Cheshire.

In addition to this work, John was, for sixteen years a member of staff at the Royal Northern College of Music Junior School.

His teaching experience has covered all ages. John is a grade and diploma examiner, trainer and moderator for ABRSM and has toured for them in Cyprus, Malaysia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Thailand, China and USA.

He lives in Wensleydale with his wife, Joan.
