Camborne
Music Festival
An
annual competitive festival for amateur instrumentalists and vocalists of
all ages and abilities.
Established 1970
The Festival
The Festival was re founded in 1970, following on from the original Wesley Eisteddfod. The Festival is held each November (usually the second or third week) and runs from Monday morning through to Saturday evening.
Competitors, who must be amateur (i.e. who do not derive their main source of income from the discipline being entered), compete in classes of an appropriate standard and are assessed and marked by a professional adjudicator, who has been specially selected to give helpful advice to improve the performances. Adjudicators are now being encouraged to mark to a common standard so that the same performance at 2 different festivals receives the same mark. Marks are awarded out of 100 and start at 75. A mark of 80 is a good achievement for a junior competitor. Marks are in the following bands
Winners of each class hold a perpetual trophy for 1 year, provided that they have achieved a mark of 84 or more (this rule does NOT apply to Juniors)
The Festival takes place at Centenary Methodist Church, Camborne (next to Tescos). There are recently refurbished practice/warm-up rooms available, a large anti-room with excellent refreshments provided throughout the day by the Ladies Committee, toilet facilities incl for the disabled, and a lift to the 1st floor.
